カンヴァス上に広がる景色、そのほとんどは偶然の産物である。
かつては非日常的でダイナミックな風景を求めていた、と小西真奈はいう。
しかしコロナ禍を経た今日、主たる題材は公園や植物園など身近な場所だ。
どんな場所や瞬間も絵のモティーフになりうるという気づきが、
遠い憧憬の土地から、身近な風景へと画家を引き寄せた。
どんな土地も小西にとっては格好の題材である。
だからこそ画家の視点は今、何を描くかではなく、
どのように対象を描くかという手法にむけられている。
めぐり合った風景はカメラに収められ、
やがて画家独自の視点にもとづいた心象風景へと変貌していく。
日常の景色と身近な人を描きながらも、
作品の多くがどこか幻想的で非日常の印象を与えるのは、
こうした手法と視点ゆえだろうか。
展覧会場に並ぶのは、今日に至る20年ものの歳月をかけて生み出された作品。
ひとつとして同じものはなく、再び描かれることはない。
一方でどれほどの時を経ようとも、それらがすべて小西の作品であるということは、決して揺るがない。
だからこそ画家は、これら綺羅星の如き作品を季節になぞらえる。
今年の春と去年の春は別物でありながら、いずれも春であるように、
「私の絵も常に変化しながら、私の絵であるということ。」
かつてある詩人が詠んだように、
永遠というものは無数の「今」から成っている。＊
そして小西の絵筆が生み出した一点一点は、まさにそれぞれの「今」の証である。
時というものは光の速さで過ぎ去る一方で、
同時に果てしない広がりを見せるものであるということ。
小西の絵筆が捉える瞬間が、刹那的でありながら決して儚くないのは、
そのすべてが永遠へと連なっているからかもしれない。

The landscapes spread across the canvas are mostly products of chance.
“I once sought extraordinary and dynamic landscapes”, Konishi said.
Today, however, after the experience of the pandemics, her main subjects have shifted to familiar places like parks and botanical gardens.
The realization that any place or moment can become a motif for a painting drew the artist from distant yearnings to familiar landscapes.
Every place is a perfect subject for Konishi.
Therefore, the painter's focus is not on what to paint
but on how to depict the subject.
Landscapes she comes across are captured by the camera,
eventually transformed into mindscapes based on the artist's unique perspective.
While depicting everyday scenes and familiar people,
many of her works evoke a fantastical and extraordinary impression,
perhaps due to these techniques and perspectives.
Displayed in the exhibition halls are works created over the past twenty years leading up to today.
Each piece is unique, never to be painted again.
However, no matter how much time passes, they are all un questionably Konishi's works.
Hence, the painter likens these myriad works to the seasons.
Yet both are springs, this year's spring and last year's spring are different.
"My paintings are always changing, yet they remain my paintings."
As a poet once wrote,
“Forever – is composed of Nows -”
Each stroke created by Konishi's brush is indeed evidence of each"now."
Time passes at the speed of light,
yet it also shows an endless expanse.
The moments captured by Konishi's brush may be fleeting yet never ephemeral, perhaps because they are all connected to eternity.
